life skills for anyone over 16 years with autism spectrum conditions
What is Aspirations? It is a 50 week a year life skills programme for anyone over 16 years with autism spectrum conditions, such as Aspergers Syndrome and high functioning autism. Working in small groups we promote: · social contact · self awareness · an understanding of others · strategies to cope with anxiety and anger management, and · independent living skills. You are supported to cope with everyday situations such as communications, relationships, work placements, work experience and flexibility. Some learners, including those with university degrees, are supported to get and maintain a job. We also have employment links with local businesses such as ARM.
Popular regular activities include: · Our mini social enterprise, Andy’s Tuck shop, is managed and run by Aspirations. Learners’ communication and money skills are developed as they carry out market research, budget and sell produce both at Red2Green and to local businesses. · Dylan, is very popular in the “pets as therapy” sessions. He is great for helping with relaxation and communication skills. Learners also take Dylan out to residential care homes, where they help to teach the residents about working with him. · Mindfulness sessions are perfect for helping with anger management and anxiety issues.
Where is Aspirations? Most sessions take part at our modern barn conversion in the peaceful countryside setting at Swaffham Bulbeck. Because of our It is anique location, we frequently go outside to make the most of the Cambridgeshire countryside. We run some sessions at our garden in Bottisham where you can take part in horticultural and retail activities providing work experience, training and fun. We also go out and about, such as bowling in Cambridge.
When is Aspirations? Aspirations now runs 50 weeks a year, from Monday to Thursday during term time, from 10am to 3pm. You are welcome to come for just a day or all week. We also offer half day options to suit funding and budgets.
